Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders
UVM’s M.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders prepares students for careers as speech-language pathologists through a combination of academic coursework and extensive clinical training. The two-year, on-campus program prepares graduates for clinical fellowship and the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP).
- Hands-on clinical training: Complete supervised clinical experiences every semester in a variety of settings.
- On-campus clinic: Begin clinical training at UVM’s Eleanor M. Luse Center for Communication.
- Broad preparation: Learn to assess and treat communication and swallowing disorders across the lifespan.
- Professional preparation: Complete the academic and clinical requirements needed to pursue certification as a speech-language pathologist.
- Accredited program: UVM’s residential M.S. program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of ASHA.
Master of Science in Exercise Science
UVM’s M.S. in Exercise Science prepares students to apply evidence-based science to improve health, prevent injury, manage chronic disease, and optimize human performance. The on-campus program combines advanced coursework with experiential learning and close faculty mentorship.
- Two pathways: Choose a 30-credit non-thesis or 36-credit thesis track.
- Small cohorts: Learn in cohorts of approximately 6–10 students.
- Hands-on learning: Gain experience in research, clinical, community, and performance settings.
- Flexible focus: Explore areas including rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, public health, and chronic disease.
- Career preparation: Prepare for careers in healthcare, performance, wellness, and research - or further doctoral or professional study.
Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.)
UVM’s M.S. in Nursing is a flexible, 100% online program for registered nurses seeking advanced knowledge and skills for today’s evolving healthcare environment. The curriculum combines advanced nursing coursework with electives that allow students to tailor the degree to their professional interests.
- 100% online: Complete coursework while balancing professional and personal commitments.
- Flexible specialization: Tailor 9 elective credits to your interests or pursue an existing UVM Graduate Micro-Certificate.
- Advanced nursing practice: Build expertise in clinical assessment, pharmacology, pathophysiology, quality and safety, and patient-centered care.
- Leadership & evidence-based practice: Develop skills to improve care, health outcomes, and healthcare systems.
- 38–41 credits: Build on your nursing experience while preparing for career advancement or further graduate study.
Direct Entry to Master of Science in Nursing Program for Non-Nursing Majors (MEPN)
UVM's Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing (MEPN) is a pathway for students with a bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing field who want to enter the nursing profession. Students complete an intensive pre-licensure year before progressing directly into the M.S. in Nursing curriculum.
- Designed for non-nursing majors: Enter nursing without first earning a B.S. in Nursing.
- RN preparation: Complete the pre-licensure year and become eligible to take the NCLEX-RN and apply for Vermont RN licensure.
- Hands-on experience: Complete 675 clinical hours during the first year.
- On-campus + online: The first year is completed in person at UVM; the M.S. coursework that follows is asynchronous online.
- Advanced nursing education: Earn an M.S. while building skills for nursing practice, leadership, and career advancement.
Physical Therapy Doctorate (D.P.T.)
UVM’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) prepares students to become evidence-based, patient-centered physical therapists. The 2.5-year, on-campus program combines academic coursework, hands-on learning, and extensive clinical education.
- Hands-on learning: Develop clinical skills through labs and academic-clinical partnerships.
- Extensive clinical education: Complete 32 weeks of full-time clinical experiences.
- Broad clinical network: Access more than 300 clinical sites across the U.S.
- Movement-focused practice: Learn to promote health, mobility, and participation across diverse populations.
- Professional preparation: Graduate eligible to take the national physical therapy licensure exam.
Direct Entry to Doctor of Nursing Practice for Non-Nursing Majors (DEPN)
UVM’s Direct Entry Doctor of Nursing Practice (DEPN) is a pathway for students with a bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing field who want to become advanced practice nurses. Students complete a pre-licensure year before progressing directly into doctoral-level preparation as a nurse practitioner.
- Designed for non-nursing majors: Enter advanced practice nursing without first earning a BSN.
- RN preparation: Complete the pre-licensure year and become eligible to take the NCLEX-RN and apply for Vermont RN licensure.
- Two concentrations: Choose Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP).
- On-campus + hybrid: Begin with a full-time, on-campus year followed by approximately three years of hybrid DNP study.
- Advanced practice focus: Prepare for national certification and primary care practice as a nurse practitioner.
Occupational Therapy Doctorate (O.T.D.)
UVM’s entry-level Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) prepares students to help people participate in meaningful activities across the lifespan. The three-year, on-campus program combines academic study with extensive fieldwork, experiential learning, and interprofessional education.
- Hands-on from day one: Work with clients and communities through embedded fieldwork experiences.
- Innovative learning spaces: Train in specialized facilities including UVM’s Smart Apartment and Pediatric and Design Lab.
- Interprofessional education: Learn alongside students and professionals across healthcare disciplines.
- Fieldwork + capstone: Complete advanced fieldwork and a doctoral capstone experience.
- Professional preparation: Graduate eligible to take the NBCOT certification exam and pursue OT licensure.
